Microneedling

Microneedling, also knows as collagen induction therapy or skin needling, is a procedure that creates hundreds to thousands of “micro injuries” to the skin, triggering your body’s natural repair response and wound healing which stimulates collagen production. At the Vein Center & MedSpa, our trained professionals utilize Skinpen which was the first FDA cleared microneedling device in the world. Typically 3-6 treatments are needed spaced 1 month apart.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it painful?

Everyone’s pain tolerance is different but for your comfort, a topical anesthetic will be applied prior to your treatment.

Is there downtime?

Typically there is 24 hours of downtime after the treatment. Common reactions are redness immediately after that can last 2-3 days, diminishing each day. Skin may feel tight, dry, itchy, have pinpoint bleeding, and peel a few days after treatment but all resolve within a few days.

Who is microneedling right for?

You are not a good candidate for microneedling if you have active cystic acne, open sores, wounds or irritated skin in the treatment area, are pregnant, nursing, have bleeding disorders, allergies to stainless steel or anesthetics and if you are currently on Accutane.

Microneedling is ideal for treating acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, thinning/aging skin, melasma, shrinking pores, texture and overall skin health.

How long does it take to see results?

Everyone’s results will vary depending on depth of treatment, skin type, genetics, after care regimen and number of treatments received. Typically in as little as 1 treatment can minimally improve texture, scars and pores. When it comes to fine lines and wrinkles, it tends to improve over longer lengths of time. Your body starts its healing process immediately after treatment and end result would be 6 months after your last treatment.

Can I make it more effective?

Home care is half the battle. You do technically have open “micro injuries” in the treatment area for the 1st 24 hours so it is important you use products that are safe with microneedling while also offering pharmaceutical grade ingredients and technology to deliver the ingredients your skin needs to heal and produce collagen. Talk with your provider about what skincare products we offer that would be right for you.
